The Blue Mountains are one of the best tourist destinations in New South Wales. Not only can you experience the magnificent surroundings, but you can do it in style in one of the many excellent resorts that are located there. The Blue Mountains are only a short drive to the west of Sydney, mostly along a modern motorway so it is quick and easy to get there. Some of the most photographed landscapes in Australia are icons of this region. The view across the Jamieson Valley from the Three Sisters at Katoomba is one of the most recognizable images on any Australian travel brochure.
In the Katoomba region you will find lots to see and do. The cable car ride over the Jamieson Valley is truly spectacular. You can also take the scenic railway on its dramatic ride down the cliff face to the valley floor and then go bush walking through the magnificent tracks through the Jamieson valley. This is the remote region where the Wollami Pine was recently discovered after having been thought extinct for millions of years. Katoomba is well known for its many spa resorts and weekend getaways as it is a really popular destination for Sydney people to take a short relaxing break in the country. Leura is an adjoining town ad it shares the natural beauty of the region and also has a number of excellent resorts.
A little further to the west is the Janolan Caves. The drive here takes you through some beautiful Australian bushland which is alive with native wildlife. At the caves is a beautiful old guesthouse with cosy guest rooms and open fires in large dining and lounge rooms. It is a truly great place to stay for a few days. The cave system here is extensive and there are a number of different guided tours through many of the caves. The surrounding countryside is absolutely magnificent and bushwalking in the region is very popular.
If you are coming to Australia for your next holiday be sure to include Katoomba and the Blue Mountains on your travel itinerary.
