Australian holiday information for Caloundra

Caloundra is one of those great Australian holiday destinations where you will spend your time with many Australians who will also make this their favorite holiday destination. Caloundra lies at the southern end of the Sunshine Coast and is just north of Bribie Island. It is only an hours drive north from Brisbane which makes it really easy to get to from anywhere in Australia or from overseas. Caloundra has a special place in the Australian holiday scene. It is one of those rare places where you can have a calm water beach and a quiet inland waterway or you can choose a great ocean front beach where the surf in pumping. Pumicestone passage is a popular boating and fishing waterway that is formed between the mainland and Bribie Island and it empties into the sea right at Caloundra. The shore line is lined with modern resorts and there are lots of cafes and restaurants along the waterfront for all the holiday makers to enjoy.

Holiday accommodation in Caloundra is plentiful and located close to the waterfront and the beaches. There are a number of excellent beaches in the Caloundra region so you can take your pick which one you spend the day at or you can take a tour into the Sunshine Coast hinterland which lies close by. Caloundra is close to the Glasshouse mountains region which is quite spectacular or you can take a tour or a drive into the Blackall Ranges and visit towns like Montville and Maleny with all their great craft shops and restaurants. Lady Cairncross Park is also in this region and it is a wonderful place to enjoy the sensational views, have a picnic and walk through the pristine rainforests of the region.

Just to the north is the Mooloolaba and Maroochydore region and here you will find the beautiful Underwater World display with it huge aquarium, sharks, otters and sealions. It is a great place to take the kids for a day out. Steve Irwins Australia Zoo is also in the vicinity and animal lovers come here from around the world to experience its wonderful displays. There are also whale watching tours as well, and fishing trips that will help to help keep everyone entertained.

There is always plenty to see and do around the Sunshine Coast when you are on holidays and Caloundra is a great place to base yourself.
