Maroochydore has been a popular beachside holiday destination on Queensland's Sunshine Coast for generations and many Australian's grew up having their annual holidays surfing at its great beaches or fishing in its estuaries. Today it is still a great holiday destination but it has also grown into the main commercial center on the Sunshine Coast as well. Maroochydore is a golfer's paradise with a number of fine courses within easy reach. Horton Park, Novotel Twin Waters, Headland and several others all welcome visitors wanting to play a round at their course. In the hinterland there are some great attractions. The late Steve Irwin's Australia Zoo is here and shuttle services run to pick you up from your Maroochydore accommodation. Fishing and whale watching charters operate from nearby Mooloolaba. Also at Mooloolaba is the wonderful "Underwater World" display, which is a great place to take the kids. If you are brave enough you can even swim with the sharks yourself. The Sunshine Coast hinterland towns of Montville and Maleny, situated in the nearby Blackall Ranges, have lots of attractions. Beautiful rainforest walks, spectacular views over the Glass House Mountains and village shopping areas with cosy cafés and restaurant are all waiting for your visit.
Mooloolaba adjoins Maroochydore and Alexandra Headland and the main beach is continuous between the two. This is a great place to take in a surf carnival or go beach fishing in the evening. There are also a number of fine accommodation resorts along the esplanade in this region. Maroochydore is very easy to get to. It is just on an hours drive north from Brisbane or you can fly direct to the Sunshine Coast airport with direct flights available from Sydney and Melbourne, coach transfers are also available.
