Mount Hotham is one of Australia's most popular ski resorts. It is located in the Victorian high country in the states north east and is the highest ski resort in Australia. Mount Hotham is a unique snow resort in that all of the accommodation is at the top of the mountain with the ski runs spread out below. There are a total of 13 lifts and chairs and a vertical drop of 395 meters. The average snow fall at Mount Hotham is 300 cm and the resort is also equipped with up to the minute snow making and grooming equipment. Mount Hotham is famous for its cross country trails as well as its downhill skiing. There is a great terrain park with half pipes and rails for the extreme skiers to enjoy.
The great Alpine Way runs along the ridge top and is lined either side by a wide choice of fantastic Mount Hotham accommodation. Being at the top of the mountain, the views across the surrounding alpine region is absolutely spectacular and most of the accommodation takes advantage of this. There is also great shopping and a host of wonderful restaurants and cafes. There is a post office, supermarket, pharmacy and everything else you might need for an extended stay.
The skiing at Mount Hotham is second to none. There are lots of groomed trails and backcountry runs. There are slopes to cater for every level of expertise and the beginners are certainly not forgotten. There is a great ski school with cute instructors, Ski hire and ski patrol.
