An Australian skiing holiday will be long remembered for the magnificent resorts, the fantastic scenery and the quality of the skiing and snowboarding experience that you will have. The Snowy mountains snowfields alpine region that is the home of the Australian skiing industry is located in the south east of the country. There are resorts in both New South Wales and Victoria to choose from and all have excellent modern facilities with plenty of lifts, cute ski instructors, ski and snowboard hire and most have lots of great on snow accommodation. The Australian alpine region is totally different from the ski resorts in other countries like Canada, Europe and New Zealand. Here most of the accommodation is on snow and you will ski among the gum trees. The Australian snow gum is a magnificent tree and it helps to create a totally unique skiing environment that is completely unlike anything you have experienced before.
In New South Wales the major snow resorts are Thredbo, Perisher Valley and Mt Selwyn. Perisher Valley is the largest and it is made up from a number of smaller resorts. Perisher Blue, Charlottes Pass, Smiggin Holes, Guthega and Blue Cow are the major ones. Ski lifts interlink them all so it provides a huge skiable area with many different runs and standards of terrain. Thredbo is unique in that the accommodation is at the foot of the mountain but the lift departs from the village area to take you to the upper ski slopes. During good seasons it is possible to ski top to bottom at Thredbo. Thredbo has Australia's longest runs and the highest vertical drop. It is also possible to drive your car right to the resort. Mt Selwyn is the smallest of the NSW ski resorts however it still has great facilities and excellent slopes. All of these resorts have modern snow making equipment just in case nature needs a little assistance.
In Victoria, the major ski and snowboarding locations are at Mt Hotham, Falls Creek and Mt Buller. Mt Buffalo also has limited ski facilities. Mt Hotham is the highest of these resorts and is unique in that the accommodation is at the top of the mountain and the ski slopes are spread out below. This means that almost every accommodation house has sensational views across the mountain ranges. The skiing and snowboarding at Mt Hotham is legend. Falls Creek is located the furthest in to the mountains of the Victorian ski resorts and has the highest annual snow falls. Mount Buller is the closest to Melbourne. All of these resorts are easy to get to and all have great facilities. Snow making equipment, hire services and great restaurants and après ski are all well taken care of at all of the Australian ski resorts.
If you don't want to stop skiing when the northern winter comes to an end then come and try a skiing or snowboarding holiday in Australia.
